| The trip started with an early arrival
at the airport (some earlier than others). Our destination
was Las Vegas, where Comdex is annually held. We made
our way to Comdex, soon after our check-in at The Luxor
and were somewhat disappointed as the show was not as
grand as it had been in the past. From what I was told,
in the past years Comdex was a massive event that was
a show with a lot of glitter and good times. This years
show was definitely opposite. I was hoping to do some
research on companies that were competitors of ours to
get a feel for what they had to offer, but I did not see
any companies that offered services such as ours. The
booths were nothing special. There seemed to be little
or no creativity. |
Don't get me wrong, there were some interesting companies
out their such as 'ubig' a company that manufacturers
and distributes high quality digital products (they had
these neat little digital voice recorders). TechSmith
is another interesting company that we came across. They
have a product called "Snag It". You may have
used it before, Snag It allows you to capture anything
on your computer screen. There were endless companies
there, offering you the latest and greatest technological
products, but as I mentioned before, none of our competitors
were at the show. |
As for Las Vegas as a city, what a great place to visit...if
you have money to lose. We had beautiful weather and we
did lots of walking. The hotels are amazing and definitely
a sight to see. If you've never been to Las Vegas, it
surely is worth the trip, but make sure you bring lots
of money for both gambling and shopping! |
The Minotaur System
uses the Inventory Bills option (usually keystrokes
VVBN) to receive purchase orders and set up the
inventory value of received product. Most Minotaur
users have the Inventory Bills option set up an
interim liability for the received product until
such time as the supplier bill arrives, at which
time the interim liability can be turned into a
payable.
While this mechanism functions well to capture the
cost of product from suppliers, it has traditionally
been somewhat limited in its ability to capture
extra costs such as freight, duty and handling charges
which might also be associated with the receipt
of the product. |
 |
|
| The traditional system provides only a
single "Shipping, Etc:" field on the inventory
bill header screen to allow you to capture the variety
of such costs which might occur. The distribution of those
costs is fixed so that it is performed in a consistent
manner whenever such extra costs are identified. Finally,
there is no option to set up these extra costs as independent
interim bills that could be reconciled to bills from vendors
that supply the services that generate these extra costs. |
Minotaur has recently added a Landing Factor module which
completely revamps our handling of extra costs. |
The module allows the user to specify an unlimited number
of extra costs to be applied on an inventory bill. These
extra costs can be calculated based on a fixed amount,
a rate per unit of related product purchased, a rate per
weight unit (i.e. rate per kilogram if that is the standard
weight unit) of related product purchased, or a rate per
dollar value of related product purchased. |
