Out of the Maze
A Publication of Minotaur Software Ltd.

'Twas the night before Christmas when all through Minotaur,
All the computers were off, yet we were not out the door,
Our tree stood alone, so we felt kind of sad,
But it was Christmas Eve, so we were quite glad.
We all left the office for a great couple of days,
Yet we still think of you all who read Out of the Maze.
Your business has been appreciated this past year,
Your continuing relationship to us is quite dear.
We wish you a very happy holiday season,
Please give us a call for any business reason!'
Happy Holidays!

Minotaur User Conference
On October 9 2002, we held our first User Conference at Minotaur Software. The conference was a success and we would like to thank everyone who attended this event. Various topics were discussed such as Asset Posting, Flexible Financials, GUI Features, EDI, Flexible Reports, Crystal Reports and a seminar with Carlisle Technology (a company that Minotaur has been working with that specializes in PDA solutions). The attendee's of the conference had a chance to speak with other Minotaur employees and users and they were also able to participate in a question and answer period. If you were not able to make it to this past event, keep your eye on the upcoming newsletters for the date of next years event.
Reminder:
It's that time of year again. For those of you who are running Minotaur's Payroll module, there will be tax changes that will take effect in January. Minotaur will send you more information on these changes soon. Please call Minotaur if you have any questions.

Customer Spotlight - Gattefosse Canada
One of Minotaur's newest customers, Gattefosse installed the Minotaur Business System in February 2002. Originally founded in France, Gattefosse develops, creates and supplies specialized ingredients, excipients and services to the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries.

In the cosmetic industry, Gattefosse's products include emulsifiers, co-emulsifiers, specialized additives, including emollients, thickeners, solubilizers and dispersers, plant extracts, substantiated actives. As for the pharmaceutical industry, Gattefosse develops and manufactures functional pharmaceutical excipients for oral, topical and rectal dosage forms.

Gattefosse presented Minotaur with some challenging lot control and costing requirements. Lot control is extremely important to Gattefosse's customers. Their customers are often required to do extensive testing before a material can be used. Thus, it was very important that whenever possible, a customer should receive product from the same lot as last time. Since it was possible to have multiple lots of the same product in stock it was necessary to allocate stock at the lot level.

Gattefosse can often negotiate a special price for their customer based on anticipated volumes to be purchased. Thus, it is possible to receive in the same shipment exactly the same lot of a product and pay different prices for each package. Normally actual cost costing would have covered this scenario but in this case the lot numbers are identical. If the proper cost did not flow to the invoice then sales analysis reports, such as the gross margin report, would have been meaningless. To solve this dilemma Minotaur added a hidden suffix to the lot number. Thus, individual portions of a shipment can be tracked, allocated and shipped.

Gattefosse also had specific requirements on reporting as their head office is in France. The Minotaur system allows them to provide their head office with the specific reports they require.

Gattefosse's fully integrated Minotaur system allows them to have complete control over their distribution process.
