 |
| |
 |
| Richard Kirkness |
|
 |
We are expecting great things in the upcoming year at Minotaur. Our development direction remains strong and focused. In addition, expansion of the Minotaur team will bring benefits to our existing and future customers. |
|
| |
| Paul Aspinall has been hired to lead our sales effort. Having known Paul for several years, we feel confident that his extensive experience in the food industry will enable us to gain further access into this specialized market. Vince Cappello has joined our support team to assist our customers with their hardware and software requirements. |
| |
| Many customers are showing an increased interest in integrating shipping and productions areas into their Minotaur Systems. As such, our development efforts will continue in the area of in-plant data collection with hand-held and touch-screen devices. Many of you will also be glad to hear we are making progress on the new .NET interface and are hoping that it will be ready for beta testing soon. We have also just completed an upgrade to our asset posting system to make adjusting postings on a daily basis. |
 |
| With ongoing development of our offerings and the Minotaur Team, we are excited about the coming year. |
 |
| We wish all our customers a successful and prosperous 2007. |

Minotaur’s New Inventory Sub-Ledger
Running your Inventory Valuation for Any Day at Any Time
By Victor Boersma |
 |
 |
|
|
 |
| |
| In response to requests by our customers, Minotaur is undertaking a project to develop an inventory subledger. |
| |
| As most of you are aware, the current Minotaur asset posting system ensures that the inventory valuation balances to the inventory general ledger accounts at the end of time. While this partial sub-ledger is useful in providing the user with confidence that the system is functioning properly, it requires some organization to generate appropriate reporting for any interested third parties. Essentially, you must run the inventory valuation and general ledger reporting exactly at month end before beginning to process transactions for subsequent periods. |
| |
| This outstanding problem existed primarily because Minotaur tracked only a single cost for any part. (With the exception of lot controlled actual cost parts for which we track only a single cost for any lot). In the past, we have never attempted to store historical costs except in transaction files. |
| |
| We are now establishing a true inventory sub-ledger based on a new database of daily costs which we will be tracking. The costs assigned to this database will be calculated using the standard Minotaur cost calculators and the existing asset posting system. The costs assigned may be modified each time you edit a historical transaction to reflect the standard Minotaur cost in effect at edit time. |
| |
| In addition to tracking the historical costs, the system will have an option to also cause general ledger subledger postings to ensure that the general ledger value of any transactions on a given date will agree with the valuation based on the new historical daily cost file. There will be an audit trail of these postings outlining the originating asset posting transaction and the resultant postings. |
| |
| The inventory valuation program (keystrokes VVRV) will have an additional costing method identified as Average |
Cost by Day. When running the valuation using this new costing method, the valuation will act as a true sub-ledger to the general ledger if the optional general ledger sub-ledger postings are activated. This means that you will be able to run your valuation for a particular date and the valuation will match to the balance in your general ledger inventory accounts on that same date.
Initially, this option will be available only for CLC costed parts. It is our intention to make it available for all costing methods eventually. |
 |
 |
|
| |
| Please contact us if you would be interested in an inventory sub-ledger capability. |

| As you may be aware the CPA has issued new cheque format specifications as part of an industry- wide plan to modernize Canada’s cheque clearing system through image technology. All Canadian business cheques should conform to the new specifications by June 30, 2007. |
| |
| The main change is the adaptation of a numeric date field in one of three specified formats; |
| |
| YYYYMMDD, MMDDYYYY or DDMMYYYY |
| |
| The field indicators must also be printed below the date field to indicate which format is being used. |
| |
| If you have not already updated your Minotaur system to meet the new specifications, contact your Minotaur account manager and they will be happy to assist you. |

| Did you know ... |
 |
| |
| Several years ago Minotaur developed a mechanism for users to define short cuts to menu paths. Once the short cut has been defined the user simply clicks on the icon to activate the function. Short cuts are stored on the user’s local drive and thus are specific to the workstation not the user. The program comes with a limited number of available icons that can be assigned to the short cut. These icons are generally placed in the utility\images folder in the root Minotaur directory. It is also possible to create custom icons. We recommend that the icon be no larger than 32x32 pixels. The image must be saved in PNG, GIF, JPG or BMP format. Icons can be created using any graphics software or downloaded from a free icon website. |
