As of July 1, 2006, the Federal GST Rate is being reduced to 6% from 7%. Your GST Rate can be set in your ASI (System Administration / Modify System Status / Change Company Information) menu. Simply change the rate from 0.07 to 0.06. This should be done on July 1, 2006 (not before), prior to any processing. As changing the tax rate is not date sensitive, you should remember that if any transactions dated prior to July 1, 2006 are edited after you have changed the rate, the GST will recalculate to the new rate of 6%. You will have to manually calculate and change it back to 7% before re-saving the transaction. Setting your audit dates to avoid the editing of old transactions which may affect GST calculations may be prudent.
 
It would be possible for Minotaur to configure an upgrade that would make the rate change for the GST be date sensitive. You would be able to enter the new rate, and the date that it is effective. Then, any transactions that are edited with a date prior to the change would calculate using the rate in effect at that time, rather than the new rate. This would avoid the need for manual tax recalculations when editing, and also avoid incorrect tax amounts should the user not remember to recalculate. If this might be something that you are interested in, please contact Minotaur Software as soon as possible. Once we have an idea how many of our customers are interested, we can decide whether it would be worthwhile to make an update.

We have added new links on each page for easier navigation. Be sure to review the handheld and touch screen interface information pages. Remember reading about something in a prior newsletter and lost your copy? No problem. All prior newsletters are available on the website. In fact, everything on our website is searchable. How? Enter your key words including Minotaur, into your Google search field. Eg. To find Minotaur’s advice about backups, enter, Minotaur backup, on your Google search page and it will pull up all references to backups including old newsletter articles. It couldn’t be easier!

Categorize Your Products with Attributes
 
You already recognize how flexible the User Defined Category Fields are on your item master. Using Minotaur’s new attribute system, items can be grouped and analyzed using text, date, numeric and yes/no information.

Minotaur continues to provide our customers with solutions to better manage their business.
